Community Development

One of the principal aims of Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association is to;

'Work in partnership with others to regenerate and improve urban areas within Merthyr Tydfil'

In addition to the traditional activities which are associated with the work of housing associations (namely the rehabilitation of existing properties as well as the building of new properties for social renting) our community development activities are integral to the wider activity of MTHA. The Association has a history of working in partnership with both statutory and voluntary organisations to promote and support initiatives that tackle deprivation in local communities.

Our current team consits of a Senior Tenant & Community Development Officer, 1 Tenant & Community Development Officer, 1 Trainee Tenant & Community Development Officer and a Youth Inclusion & Development Officer. The team is responsible for involving our residents in their communities as well as developing capacity building activities. One of the main projects at the moment is to involve our residents who live within Communities First areas in training, employment and voluntary activities.

MTHA encourages greater participation in addition to encouraging tenants to become involved within their communities and promoting personal development as it relates to education, employment and volunteering. For additional information on getting involved and tenant participation, please click on the 'Getting Involved' link or ring 01685 352800 and speak with a Community Development team member.
