New Development: Glanmor Gardens, Dowlais

Hermon Close

In May 2009, Cardiff-based affordable housing specialist Lovell started work on a £5.1 million housing development for the Association at Hermon Close, Dowlais to deliver 37 affordable homes.

The new housing is made up of two bungalows for residents with special needs and 35 houses for rent / shared equity through the Association. The homes have been designed to meet Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the system for assessing the environmental performance and sustainability of new housing.

Homes which meet Level 3 of the Code are 25 per cent more energy efficient than most new housing. The homes will benefit from high levels of insulation and solar hot water systems. They will also be fitted with mechanical ventilation with heat recovery systems which bring fresh air in from outside and recycle hot air from bathroom and kitchens.

The scheme is due for completion in December 2010, with a phased handover of houses available from August 2010. There will be a show house on-site and the marketing will be undertaken by Peter Alan Estate Agents. The scheme has been named ‘Glamor Gardens’ after Professor Glanmor Williams, who was born in Dowlais and became acknowledged as the foremost expert on early modern Welsh history.
