New name for development scheme in Aberfan

Following the community consultation on the naming of the development of 23 new homes in Aberfan, the name Railway Close / Clos y Rheilffordd has been chosen.

We were delighted with the response from the community with over 70 suggestions put forward. The most popular theme was around station, railway, goods yard and names suggested were closely linked to the historical significance of the site. The development is on the site of a railway which operated from the 1880s until the early 1950s. Many suggestions made were in reference to the railway.

The most common names put forward were Station Close, Pant Glas Close and Taff Vale Crescent. Unfortunately, these names were not allowed since there are already a number of officially named streets in the same locality with these names as a prefix. Under current addressing legislation and MTCBC street naming and numbering policy, duplicate or similar names are not permitted due to potential confusion and possible mis-direction for various organisations, most importantly the emergency services.

We would like to thank everyone who participated for their contribution.
