What a fantastic achievement! On Thursday 30 July, residents of Dowlais Stables Community Garden came together with friends, partners and supporters to celebrate a milestone they should be incredibly proud of – being awarded the Green Flag Award by Keep Wales Tidy.
More than 25 tenants, local partners and community supporters joined the celebrations, enjoying food, refreshments and, of course, the beautiful garden that has become the heart of their community.
What is the Green Flag Award?
The Green Flag Award is the recognised benchmark for parks and green spaces across the UK and beyond. Delivered in Wales by Keep Wales Tidy, the award recognises spaces that achieve high standards in quality, cleanliness, safety, environmental management, biodiversity and community involvement.
Wherever you see a Green Flag flying, you know you’re visiting a place that is loved, well cared for and valued by the people who use it.
A Garden That Brings People Together
The Dowlais Stables Community Garden has grown into much more than a green space. It is a place where residents can:

With ongoing support from Keep Wales Tidy, residents have dedicated countless hours to nurturing the garden, ensuring it remains vibrant, welcoming and full of life.
A Well-Deserved Recognition
Receiving this award is a true testament to the commitment, teamwork and passion shown by everyone involved. Every flower planted, every path maintained and every hour volunteered has contributed to creating a space that the whole community can be proud of.
The residents were, quite rightly, proud as punch to see their hard work recognised with such a prestigious award.
