At our AGM on 14 July 2026, we celebrated two of our amazing tenants.
Desley Reynolds was an active member of our Tenant Voice Group. She championed the voice of the tenant, sharing her experiences and acting for the greater good to support Merthyr Housing to make sure that tenants have a voice in shaping our services for the better. In January 2011, Desley passed away and the Desley Reynolds Award was set up in her memory to celebrate and recognise individuals or groups who have gone above and beyond to support their community or have triumphed with their personal development.
Each year, we present the Desley Reynolds Award to those who have made a difference in our community. This year the award was given to two of our amazing tenants – Dawn Pugh and Lynette Turner.
Dawn and Lynette worked together to transform the communal garden into a place of colour, sanctuary and fun. The garden has become a place where the tenants of Kevin Ryan Court can sit, enjoy the view and share each other’s company.
When asked about why they had been nominated, one tenant said “Before they arrive the complex used to be so quiet. They have livened things up and they are always there to help everyone”. Another said “We can now hear people laughing, and they have brought a sparkle to the place. Their work in the garden has brought everyone together and created a strong community”.
Dawn and Lynette each received a trophy and a bouquet of flowers which was presented by the Chair of the Board, Ann Batley.
