Exciting New Developments in Progress

We are thrilled to be working on several new developments across the Borough, as well as progressing a number of additional sites and acquisitions behind the scenes. Our commitment to delivering quality homes continues with the following exciting projects:

Springfield Rise – Treharris

Merthyr Housing has purchased land at Springfield Rise in Treharris for the development of 23 new affordable homes for rent. The circa ~£6.3m development will provide a mix of homes, including 10 x 1 bedroom flats, 4 x  2 bedroom flats, 6 x 2 bedroom houses, 2 x 3 bedroom houses and 1 x 4 bedroom house.

The contractor, Pendragon (Design & Build) Ltd, started on-site in October 2024 with the homes programmed to be available in 2027. The site has good accessibility to a range of services and amenities within Treharris either on foot or on public transport.

The homes are being built to EPC-A standard, using a mixture of solar panels, timber frames and air source heat pumps. The homes are designed to be low energy with a focus on lower energy bills and reduced carbon emissions.

The contractor has carried out extensive works to improve the existing access, estate road and pavement. The houses will have spacious gardens for families to enjoy, with incredible views of the valley below.

Pendragon (Design & Build) Ltd are currently carrying out the construction works, working with local sub-contractors and suppliers to provide further benefits to the local community. The contractor is also engaging with Merthyr College.

Merthyr Housing are very proud to be providing high-quality housing in an area that is identified to meet the local housing need.

    Haydn Terrace, Penydarren

Following the purchase of the site at Haydn Terrace, Penydarren by Merthyr Housing, works are due to start on-site soon to develop 47 new affordable homes for rent. The new development will provide a mix of homes including 19 x one-bedroom flats, 23 x two-bedroom houses, 4 x three-bedroom houses and 1 x wheelchair accessible bungalow.

The site is located on the western side of Penydarren within the Galon Uchaf area, 1.5 miles north of Merthyr Tydfil town centre. The site has excellent transport links with close access to the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road and the A470.

The total project cost is £17million, which is funded by grants of £10.6million from Welsh Government and private finance of £6.4million. The housing grant investment has been secured through the strong partnership working between Merthyr Tydfil CBC and Merthyr Housing to deliver the needs for new affordable housing in the borough.

The new homes will be built to the AECB CarbonLite standard, with the homes designed to be low-energy, comfortable, healthy buildings that significantly reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption. The building construction will rely on a high build quality that will undergo rigorous quality assurance to ensure the design and construction achieve the standard.

The scheme has placemaking at its heart, with a large communal space for people to congregate, play and enjoy, whilst making the most of the sloping topography by capitalising on the breathtaking views of the valley beyond.

The contractor, Hale Construction, will be undertaking the construction works. Hale are committed to making a positive contribution to the local communities within the borough both directly and through their supply chain and subcontractors. This will include new job and skills training opportunities and working with the local primary school on a variety of projects in and around the school. Our Community Development Team will work alongside the contractor to realise job and training opportunities and identify community benefits on the project.

Each development showcases our dedication to building high-quality homes that enhance communities, when these properties are completed, it will take our total homes to 1344! Keep an eye on this page for updates as we continue to expand our offering of new homes across the area.
