GP Sol Powers Local Boys and Girls Club
Over the past few years, GB Sol has been a proud to partner of Merthyr Housing working to improve the energy efficiency of existing properties through the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. These initiatives have not only helped reduce carbon emissions but have also delivered tangible savings on energy bills for tenants.
GP Sol’s commitment to creating impact goes beyond homes—they believe in giving back to the communities near their factory in Treforest. That’s why they recently completed a solar panel installation at Georgetown Boys & Girls Club, a vital community hub offering young people a safe, supportive space to develop new skills and confidence.
Recognising the Club’s ongoing contribution to the local area, GB Sol and Merthyr Housing saw an opportunity to support their mission by helping to reduce their energy costs. This project aims to improve the facility’s financial sustainability so that more funding can be directed toward activities and services that benefit local youth.
Project Details

As part of this community retrofit project, GB Sol delivered and installed a fully fitted 4.8kW solar electric generation system. The installation included:
- 🛠 Scaffolding provided by a local company to facilitate safe roof access
- ☀️ 15 Welsh-manufactured solar PV panels installed on the roof
- ⚡ Solis PV inverter fitted internally to convert solar energy from DC to usable AC power for lighting, sockets, and appliances within the centre
This installation is a great example of how renewable energy can deliver community benefit while also showcasing Welsh innovation and sustainability. Not only are the solar panels themselves manufactured in Wales, but the entire project supported the local supply chain, keeping investment and jobs within the region.
A Sunny Outlook
The system is expected to generate approximately 2,259kWh of electricity in its first year—the equivalent of boiling 753 cups of tea! So, rest assured, Raymond and the gang at the Club won’t be going thirsty any time soon.

Merthyr Housing are proud to work with companies such as GB Sol that contribute to projects that align with our values—supporting local people, cutting carbon emissions, and keeping the Merthyr and Welsh economy thriving.
