Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association (Merthyr Housing) is a community-focused social landlord providing 1,257 affordable homes and support services across Merthyr Tydfil. The organisation employs a dedicated team of 50 staff and is committed to building inclusive, supportive communities.
They began their QED journey in September 2019 and achieved the QED Award in September 2020. In June 2024, they became the second Registered Social Landlord (RSL) in Wales to undertake reaccreditation, demonstrating a strong and sustained commitment to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across the organisation and its services.
Following successful accreditation for a further 3 years, the QED panel praised the organisation for their significant improvements in tenant data collection and analysis, their thoughtful EDI gap analysis to ensure tenant involvement is more representative, and an ongoing commitment to staff engagement and induction improvements.
Commenting on their success, Chief Executive of Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association, Karen Courts, said:
“The success of our QED accreditation is down to our staff and the culture within our organisation. This award reflects our ongoing commitment to ensure that we foster a workplace where everyone feels valued and equity and inclusion are a lived experience for our staff and tenants.”
While Tai Pawb recognised the huge effort behind these achievements.
Alicja Zalesinska, Chief Executive of Tai Pawb, said:
“It’s a testament to their dedication that Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association took the decision to recommit to QED and reinforce their EDI work. Well done to the team for their continued success and for securing reaccreditation – an outstanding achievement!
At a time when equality, diversity, and inclusion are more important than ever, it’s inspiring to see organisations like Merthyr Tydfil Housing Association stay focused, courageous, and consistent in their work. Equality isn’t just a buzzword – it’s about celebrating the humanity of our neighbours, colleagues, and friends and treating everyone with fairness, dignity, and respect. We are confident that Merthyr Housing will continue to build on this momentum and we look forward to seeing where their journey takes them in the years ahead.”
