On Tuesday the 5th of June MTHA were proud to unveil their new history board recounting the stories of some of those Merthyr residents who have memories relating to the stables and its long history.  Mayor Clive Tovey opened proceedings before handing over to local historian and MTHA board member Huw Williams to detail some of the history of Dowlais Stables dating back as far as the birth of the building and even incorporating some of his own youthful memories of the Stables.  It was fitting that current residents of the site officially opened and unveiled the history board.  An interesting story was relayed regarding the myth of a time capsule in the entrance archway which was fitting as MTHA youth group members as part of their 40th Anniversary celebrations buried a time capsule next to the history board to be unearthed in 2077 when MTHA will be 100.

The history board is open to public viewing just to the right through the Stable arches.  If you have an interest in the site however why not wait until September when MTHA opens the site up to the European wide Open Doors festival which will incorporate a more detailed history of the site as well as the local area through a talk from a local historian.  To find out more details about the event in September please keep an eye our for information on MTHA’s website or social media pages or through the CADW website.  https://cadw.gov.wales/?lang=en
