Through partnership with the Regeneration Team at Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council, we have been able to provide 41 summer hampers to families living in our homes.
As we enter the summer school holidays, we know that the six-week holidays can put a heavy strain on the cost of the weekly shop. All families with children under the age of 16, were placed in a draw to see if they would win one of our summer hampers.
Our hampers were made up from cupboard essentials such as squashes, tins of beans, as well as laundry necessities like washing powder and washing up liquid. We partnered with Craig’s Meats (located in Trago Millis) to be able to provide freezer fillers and fresh meats to keep families going through the summer holidays.
Community Development Manager, Bethan Thomas, had this to say about this initiative:
“We know that the six weeks holiday puts a significant strain on household income with extra food being needed for children. Thanks to Cheryl Jones at the Regeneration team in the local authority, we had a grant to support families throughout the school holidays. As well as providing some financial relief for our tenants, we have used this opportunity to spread the word that we are here to help and support our tenants, at any time of the year. We are lucky that we have a good relationship with Craig’s Meats to enable us to get some excellent freezer fillers that will hopefully keep busy households fed this summer. We are looking forward to feedback from the families that were supported and the difference that this has made to them for the six-week school holidays.
