Housing associations and local authorities in Wales recognise that this is an uncertain and
difficult time for our tenants. COVID-19 is rapidly changing the world around us, and having
a profound impact on people’s jobs, communities and lives. We provide homes to more than
250,000 tenants in Wales, as well as providing essential housing-related support and wellbeing
services. We stand by our communities in these uncertain times, and we want to make a
number of commitments to our tenants:

Money Advice

As demands on our Income / Benefits become ever increasing you may find that a little help and advice from “the experts” can help you manage your money. Whether this is helping you to budget your finances, save on a regular basis or borrow money at the best interest rate available to you. Citizen’s Advice Bureau

Citizens Advice Bureaux offer free, confidential, impartial and independent advice from over 3,500 locations. These include high streets, community centres, doctors’ surgeries, courts and prisons.

Their advice helps people resolve their problems with debt, benefits, employment, housing, discrimination, and many more issues. It is available to everyone.

Advice may be given face-to-face or by phone. Most bureaux can arrange home visits and some also provide email advice.

Shelter Cymru

Shelter Cymru is Wales’ people and homes charity. Their vision is that everyone in Wales should have a decent home. They believe a home is a fundamental right and essential to the health and well-being of people and communities. Shelter can help tenants in housing crisis or help to address a long term issue and can appeal housing benefit decisions on your behalf.

Money Advice Service

The Money Advice Service is an independent service, set up by government to help people make the most of their money. They give free, unbiased money advice to everyone across the UK – online, over the phone and face to face.

They can help with practicaly every life changing situation and advise on how this will affect your money. They have a vast amount of information and advice ranging from on-line money health checks to mortgage and pension advice.

Credit Union – Merthyr Tydfil

Merthyr Credit Union provides secure savings and affordable loans to those who live or work in the county borough.  If you need any financial advice or assistance please get in touch to see if they can help.

They also provide free confidential debt advice, payroll deduction, direct benefit payment, landlord scheme and they even sell good value electrical goods like washing machines, fridges and freezers to help save you money!

Moneyline Cymru

Moneyline Cymru offer small, unsecured loans, usually for periods of less than one year. They lend to people who struggle to borrow from banks, or who pay too much for their money with higher cost lenders.

Thet take great care to make sure that any loan that they grant is appropriate and affordable and if they think there is a better solution than borrowing they will tell you. They also undertake budgeting with the tenant and can access basic bank accounts.
