We are just over a week away from the go live date of the biggest change in housing law for decades, with the Renting Homes Wales Act comes into effect from Thursday 1 December and we are ready for it.
The changes will mean that our tenants will have enhanced rights and responsibilities to ensure that they are able to live in warm, safe homes that will allow them to thrive. You may be referred to as a contractor holder, but we are sticking with tenant to try and keep things as consistent as possible. The changes also means that as a social landlord, we must make sure that our homes meet these new standards.

You can watch this explainer from Welsh Government, which will give you more information on what this means for tenants.

Fit for Human Habitation means that we will have 29 additional standards that we need to meet when it comes to our homes; this is on top of the Welsh Housing Quality Standards. Our programme to replace kitchens, bathrooms and boilers will not change.

For our existing tenants, we will be issuing the new contracts in the new year, so keep an eye out for our housing officers. They will be on hand to answer your questions and make sure that you feel informed about what has changed.

If you are a new tenant, you will sign the new occupation contract and will be able to again, ask questions and understand your rights and responsibilities.
We know that change can be daunting, but we want to make sure that everyone feels ready for what is about to come and if you have any questions, then our teams are here for you.
